Kids can be so smart with certain stuff, but totally cluessless with others. Increasingly, I think kids are more in tune with technology stuff, but completely losing touch on what many of us consider as basic life skills and basic knowledge about animals and nature.
I knew a kid (in HK) in his early teens and he loved salmon sashimi. When someone brought a whole raw filet back to HK and asked if he wanted some, the kid stared at the sashimi for a bit and said no -- and here is the kicker -- he didn't want any b/c he didn't recognize what that "thing" was. To him, sashimi was chunks of nicely cut meat that is red in colour.
Another kid, also in HK, didn't know what pineapples nors peaches look like, but he loved to those yellow ring shaped fruits slices with a hole in the middle, and he certainly loved those soft yellow halves in syrup as well...
A coworker told me some of her friends kids (here in Vancouver) don't know beef and pork came from cattles and swines, but at least they knew what cows and pigs were.
