new lens from wife

Just got a 17-40 from wife as a Christmas gift.

I am not particularly like this lens in terms of sharpness and color comparing to my beloved 50mm.  But I will trying to learn how to shoot wide angle stuff.  Here are a fews photos from the first outing with my new lens to share with you.

Nice and sharp, but the pics seem a little under-exposed, and it looks like you could play with the WB a bit to get some better colours.

But damn, I wish I have a wife like that~

Kaka:  yes, she is pretty sweet 3/4 of a month and  telling me to buy more lens.  She is tried of the 50mm look.

Matt: I only went there to grocery shopping there.  It is a million dollar neighborhood. But we should meet up to do street shooting.

Thanks Liks.

As for underexposed, they are all sooc from Lightroom 2.  It was a very contrasty afternoon, I already blow some highlights as it.  It could also be my bad monitor.

As of now, I am not really digging this f4 lens.  Almost no dof, almost has an iphone look to it. Should I try 24 1.4 instead?

go full frame if you want dof
or just get closer to your object

when you shoot from that far away, you pretty much want everything in focus anyway

unfortunately I don't have an external viewfinder so it's really a pain for me to shoot wide angle

bad/good thing about the wide angle is objects that far away become even farther and small
lens distortion is another issue to consider
