100 sled dogs slaughtered in Whistler when tourism slumped: Report

The SPCA is launching an investigation following a report that a dogsled tour company in Whistler, B.C., ordered the killing of 100 dogs when bookings slumped after the Olympic Games in Vancouver.

Vancouver radio station CKNW reported that documents it obtained from WorkSafeBC, the agency that monitors compliance with the occupational health and safety regulation in the province, show an employee of Outdoor Adventures Whistler was granted compensation after developing post-traumatic stress disorder for allegedly being forced to kill the dogs.

The radio station reports the dogs were either shot or had their throats slashed before being buried in a mass grave.

"It wasn't always a clean, one-shot kill," lawyer Cory Steinberg, who is representing the employee, told CKNW. "Inevitably, he ended up seeing and having to put the end to some horrific scenes."

Outdoor Adventures Whistler has not contested the WorkSafe injury claim, according to CKNW, which has not been able to elicit a comment on the case from the company.

Marcy Moriarty, head of cruelty investigations at the B.C. SPCA, told CKNW her organization is launching an investigation.

你夠響加拿大住,又接受西方教育啦。我又唔見你有幾文明喎?

我從來都唔會話西方世界樣樣野都好。我一直講嘅都係中共成日話自己點好點好,但根本就係一 pat 屎。

If any part of this is true, I will boycott Outdoor Adventures Whistler for ALL of their services. (ATV, snow shoes, whatever tours) And I don't think I will be the only one.

What really pisses me off today is that on the radio, the "executioner's" lawyer was saying:

Corey Steinberg with the Double Diamond Law Corporation is the lawyer for the man who killed the dogs.  He spoke with CityTV and tried to explain his client's actions.  "He's really an expert in dogs and... is an extremely caring person.  He loved these dogs like a person I've never seen and unfortunately, the only way to put it, he found himself backed into a corner."

He adds the man did try to find homes for the dogs, and tried to find a veterinarian to euthanize the animals humanely, but was ultimately left to 'do it on his own.'

and I call this total BS.

Everyone knows that you should follow your boss' orders, except unless he is asking you to do something illegal. In this case, clearly the act was criminal, and he should have gone to the RCMP right away when he was being asked to kill the dogs.

I don't think there is any "if, and, or but" here. They may not be able to find the mass grave, but it doesn't make sense for the employee to come out and say this sort of thing had he not done something like that.

Very true!
I don't understand WHY he said he was forced to "do this on his own". I am sure if he asked for help from people like SPCA or any of the husky or malamute dog clubs, lots of people will want to adopt them. Or donate to keep them alive until someone take them home!!!!
Total excuse. It's like saying: I love my family but my boss told me to kill them and now I need counselling.
He is the person who could have save the dogs!!!!

I think he is now suing for for damages

"the worker who killed the dogs went to WorkSafe BC claiming post-traumatic stress"
