ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) - An Abbotsford man is looking at several charges after 12 guns were taken from his home on Saturday.

Cst. Ian MacDonald with Abbotsford Police says the suspect is well known to them and isn't just an enthusiastic hunter. Officers were tipped off there was some serious firepower in the home, and sure enough, they discovered eight rifles and four handguns inside.

"We believe that the firearms ultimately were destined for criminal endeavours, and whether they would have remained in his hands or would have changed hands, obviously that's where the public safety concerns are elevated," MacDonald tells News1130. "One of the handguns was loaded, in fact, and was just sitting on the table."

The 42-year-old suspect is known to police as officers have been called to the home 82 times over the last six years, with the number of calls escalating in recent months.

MacDonald says the guns will undergo forensic tests to see if they are connected to other crimes.

The suspect faces a number of weapons related charges, including unsafe storage and illegal possession
