佐治古尼 (George Clooney) 示威被捕

【明報專訊】荷李活影星佐治古尼（George Clooney）昨在蘇丹駐華盛頓大使館被捕。當時他與父親和一批反蘇丹人士在大使館外集會，抗議蘇丹政府阻撓對南部叛軍活躍地區的人道援助，他們未有理會警方警告離開，結果被華府特工拘捕，以索帶帶走。外界之前已預期佐治古尼會挑釁警方，盼以被捕爭取外間關注。

If anything this is done deliberately by Clooney and his friends from the Senate to put public attn and pressure on the issue. If they were politically smart they wouldn't have arrested him. Now they'll face unprecedented pressure to respond in regards to Sudan.

Unfortunately, it's not the west's national interest to do anything about Sudan. The west doesn't really care about humanitarian concerns. It's all about "whats in it for me". If there's benefits to be made out of, they'll intervene whether it's morally right, or like most of the times, wrong.

As in Western Gov'ts. The only reason they'd contribute to humanitarian concern is if they get plenty of positive publiciticy and profit from it, or get positive publicity out of it for very little cost.

Messing with Sudan or Syria which is expensive and not profitable does not fit the west's national interest.

Humanitarian concern can be ignored by the States, but it relys on time frame as well. National interest always draw the prime concern.
