MSP medical service plan?

hi guys... i am not sure if this is the right place to post

i have recieved a letter from Revenue Services of British Columbia, it says i have to pay MSP for $54.00 per month or $162.00 for 3 months...

the question is... do i need to pay as requested? i mean... all my friends never did recieve the same invoice....

on the letter it says "MSP coverage is mandatory for BC residents." ---really?

yes, you should pay and you don't want to owe any fees. for those who doesn't need to pay, they are probably under "premium assistance". what that means is that when they file their income tax, they are below a certain amount (i forgot how much exactly), and they are qualified as "premium assistance" so they are exempted from this payment.

if you look it up from health.bc.ca or something like that, you will find out more info about whether or not you are qualified for "premium assistance."

forgot to add. another reason why your friends don't get this invoice is probably because they have signed up with their employer. meaning they are still paying but they pay at a discounted rated (through their company) and the amount gets deducted automatically from their pay every month or bi-weekly.

or if you are an international student.....you MIGHT get away with it~~

Of course it is mandatory la. If you don't pay, how do you expect to get provincial medical services if you get sick or hospitalized?

if your friend is under age 25 and still a full time student, he is still cover under his parents.
if you haven't file your income tax for this year, they will consider your income is over the limit.
if you don't want it, you can cancel it, but it means you will need to pay for all medical service la.

the premium assistance is for ppl with low income

$20,000 - 100 percent subsidy
$22,000 - 80 percent subsidy
$24,000 - 60 percent subsidy
$26,000 - 40 percent subsidy
$28,000 - 20 percent subsidy

if u qualify for subsidy.. fill out the premium assitance and form and mail it back and they'll adjust the premium..

oh... it is just that i am a part time student... i thought the school have covered this through medical care plan or something like that...

i am also working part time, will work full time starting in the next 2 months... so i am thinking i should apply now to meet the deadline, and apply for premium thingy as soon as i am a FT and apply this with my employer....

thanks guys!!!
