haha... ok, i am sorry.  I never know that a comfortable lifestyle does not include cable TV, a car, some gadgets.  That's why i concluded that 60k is not enough to live comfortably.

Mind you, it is the stupid real estate people who exaggerated the real estate potential.  But i would never blame them as their living depends on the sales.  Just stupid people who fell into the trap and believe the BS that is out there on newspapaer (oh, if u dont' know, newpapaers are working for real estate too since that is a major source of their income.)

Oh... please don't assume that people who buy iphone or starbucks coffee do not have the money to enjoy the comfortable lifestyle.  Those people are usually not the average joe who lives on tight budget haha...  Pointing out the real estate facts doesn't mean the person is too poor to afford it

It comes down to how u define comfortable lifestyle. I see iPhone and Starbucks as luxury. I don't have iPhone, I don't have data plan for cell phone, and I don't see it as boring. Say at work, of course shouldn't play with phone la...at home you can always use wi-fi, the data plan is not a must. As for iPhone, there are many phone out there cheaper than that and also offer great games and browsing experience. That aside, let's talk about entertainment, in summer time, hiking is free! Get more fresh air!
winter time, skiing is luxury to me (it's indeed very expensive), still can go for movie or rent movie, playing video games etc...
其實做人係咁架啦,睇送食飯。想享受多啲嘅,咪做多份part time,賺多兩個$囉,一係就study吓,增值自己,係咁架啦,鬼叫我阿爸唔係李嘉誠咩。

I don't think people know how much is $700,000.

After tax, for that person making 60K, he will need probably need to work 30years to pay off the loan plus interest.  This is after tax money, and no eating or drinking during that time, 100% after tax money contribute to the house payments.

This is the cost of 700,000.  "The entire working life of a person making 60K"

as fibbi said, 睇送食飯... if you REALLY want an iphone, i think if you are making $60K a year you can afford an iphone for sure, but not EVERYTHING you want (cable tv, a car, this and that).

I want a boat, i want a hot tub in my bedroom, but i don't have the money! but i am living comfortably, and i am happy with my life... i can at least rent a boat or go visit a hotel with a hot tub in the bedroom if i want, and that is enough for me.

everyone has to make some sacrifices in life. of course i don't think everyone who buys starbucks can't afford a home. those people probably can afford both, but have to make their sacrifices somewhere else.

if your attitude is "no iphone = uncomfortable", then you're jsut setting yourself up...

but no one is buying a $700,000 home on a $60,000 income, banks wouldn't even approve the mortgage nowadays!!!

and the assumption is flawed because if you start out making 60K, chances are you will make 3 times more when you have more experience.
