The rest of your concern is valid.
...........
Let me answer you this way. I know colored kids who were born in Canada and native indians with European surnames (they got interviews)--People don't want to hire them here. It is not my opinion. White people told me, in numerous occasions, that they routinely filter out "last names" on resumes.
(same with UBC a few years ago, what the TAs did to your marks)
I think we all want to talk about general cases, right? I don't know which particular company(ies) you quoted for examples. Yet, I also know some "colored" friends who are working in some Caucasian companies (big and small ones) in higher (senior management level) to lower (retail sales) positions respectively.
Let's stick with HK and Vancouver, and only compare between Chinese (Hongkongese, and maybe Taiwanese and Mainlander too) and Caucasian. General speaking, what makes you (and/or other people) think "you" (a general "you") are not as "fight-able" as other people (no matter white or colored) here, but can beat other competitors if you're in HK? For what "qualification" (including academic qualification, experience, any special skills and techniques, ....etc) you have only so valuable in HK but not here? If so, yes, you should go back to HK! If not, you have to beat down other people no matter where you are anyways.
The fact is, if you are well qualified and aggressive and ambitious enough, anywhere to you is the same.
And on the other hand, if you ain't, anywhere to you is also the same. |
