Well, I can get new cell phone every few years when contract ends and there is free hardware upgrade.

60K income gives u about $3200 after tax income.
For 500K property, assume pay 50K down payment to begin with, each month is about $1700 mortgage payment, leaving about $1500 for other.
Now let's see...
Cellphone $30 (voice plan only)
TV/Internet $100
Car (gas+insurance) $300
Utility (assuming condo), $70
Strata Fee $200
Food $200
Misc (that can be your entertainment) $300
Saving $300

    this is going back to the "this is not a good time to buy" discussion. If you dont' think it's a good time to buy, that's one thing, perhaps you think prices will go down in the near future (i dont' know) then okay, you can wait.

but to say that vancouver is grossly expensive and unaffordable is a completely different discussion (what we've been discussing!) i think it's not too expensive for "normal" people, but at the same time i don't think "normal" people should expect living an extravagant lifestyle.

    That's where "saving" comes in to place. One must have some sort of saving to deal with emergency situation.

And perhaps, 10 yrs down the road, most likely get married or have a partner, some cost can be "shared".

    i am positive, unless you pay 50% downpayment, even with 0 other debt, i don't think one would qualify a mortgage in vancouver under that scenario...

I am not into gadgets... haha... if you were to look at my posts, i never mentioned anything about nice phones and cameras....

then again, i don't make "average" or "normal" salary, haha, i can afford a bit more than that if i really wanted to.
