Building the gondola is just a waste of money for another vanity project. Just look at the Olympics village that still has lots of units for sale. They claimed that the project will generate profits for the city. But now it is a burden, just like the Olympics was a vanity project. Building apartments at SFU is another project that will result in a few hundreds more empty units. Who would want to move up on to a hill? There are much better choices.

Canada hosted the summer and winter Olympics before. But for China it was only the first summer Olympics.

Do you know how many people are living up at UniverCity now? Do you know what kind of further (real estate) developments and supporting facilities the University is looking to go forward with? hahaha just a bunch of empty units. Who would want to go up the hill which is so slippery when the weather is cold? There are only a few people living up there on the hill. You talked like it is a boom town.

Production Way <-> SFU is one of the more frequently used routes. A gondola infrastructure might be cheaper than running busses up and down all the time. Obviously have to see the real math to know the numbers.

Having said that, just like any government led projects, there's always going to be some waste when you go through the bureauratic system. Nothing much you can do. Only other way is to privatize it, and we know that carries it's own set of problems.
