no,

If your org. tax rate is 10%, a reduction of 15% will give you a new rate 8.5%
Your tax bill will be around 500 less per year if you are making around 50K a year.

I am all for consumption tax, so it is a good move.  But it is a bit too late for him.

The Liberals are not the golden boys that a lot of you seem to believe here.

Yes, it is true that they managed the economy relatively well. However, this is done at the cost to a LOT of cuts in various social services. The general neglect on foster child care for the last, what, 10+ years, has came up in the headlines time and again. Healthcare spendings have not been up to par. Funding to education has not been keeping up to the demands -- do you remember from a couple of days ago when schools were gonna be closed down, and parents were out protesting? But in the mean time, Gordo has quietly given himself at least a 40% salary increase, and I actually seem to think that in his 12 years in office, he has given himself and the MLAs at least 2 hefty pay increases that were way above inflation, if not more. Now ask yourself this -- for the same job, when was the last time when you had a 40% increase in salary? You'd be happy if you could even get a 2% pay increase la!

In a healthy society and political climate, what we need is balance. Had the Liberals been able to maintain that over their 12 year reign, I wouldn't mind voting them in again. But to me, at least, while they've done an ok job -- perhaps even a good job -- at managing the economy, they've let things tipped too far off in one direction of the scale. And then on top of that, there is their arragoance issue because they've been in office for too long, and think that they can just shove anything they want down our throats.

So for these reasons, I am prepared to vote the Liberals out. My decision is certainly not set in stone yet, but at this point in time, that's what I am thinking.

IFF the Liberals announced the income tax cut along with
the HST, they may win another term

15% income tax cut isn't that much...for 72k you save about 1k that's it!  However, for people making low income it's meaningless to them but they still need to pay HST!!!

I agree with Lik above, yes, Libs did a decent job is managing our economy; however, at the cost of hurting other important sectors.  How many schools have closed down and how about our medical lineups?  Cities are not getting enough funds and that's why you see parking tax and etc.  His policies are good for bussinesses but not the citizens.  Who should we thank for the Winter Olympic debt?  Millenium Water?  Compared to the NDP ferries, the Olympics is just the same.

But at least we got a very nice memory of the Olympics.
What did we get from the NDP ferries?

School is down...is it because we have less kids?

There is no easy solution for medical service worldwide,
the medical, education and welfare drain all the budget.
Driving all business away is not necessary good for  average
people, we learnt  from history already.
As I said 10 years ago, award the NDP with the fast cats and
make them to maintain it until they are sold. It would surely
bankrupt the NDP.
A new government should have a better balance between the
labour and business instead of taking side.

Obviously the Liberals are not perfect, nobody says they are. If they are able to maintain the economy well, give you tax cut, keep provincial fiscal in good health, along with prop up Medical, School, and even the City of Vancouver (which are the ones whose raising the parking tax, not the Provincial gov't)... then they are not just a good gov't, they are GOD.

Obviously I don't expect any gov't to be godlike. No gov't are w/o flaws. Even as efficient as the HK gov't, socialism Lik can still find tons of holes in it (and I agree with a good chunk of those accusations too).

All we are asking here is, did Lib do better? or did NDP do better? Do you really think NDP will do better than the Libs if you give them a chance? I think letting NDP come to power is too much of a gamble that the province cannot afford to lose.

You are entirely correct, and this is what we are debating here. And in a democratic society, we all make our own decisions and agree to go alone with the majority at the end of the day. And that is what democracy is all about.

line-ups at the hospital is a direct consequence of low cost.
you can't have cheap and fast services at the same time

so you save $1K from this tax reduction
but do you pay $1K more on HST? I doubt you would pay even $500 more

so you still have a net gain
