IT Support Manager's job is make sure things get done and reduce expense to as low as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if she is bs'ing all along. The developer position she was referring to is in another department under different manager, so she said the pay is higher there.
The restaurant was a family-run, so I had to stay there.
My company is a huge company that dominated the West Coast for 20 years until now. Tons of competitions come in and undercut my company because they have labour lower cost (front-end employee: minimum wage vs our unionized $30/hr with no education requirement). PS. That is for front-end employee at the store, I am at head office, non unionized.
Most of the people I work with have been working there for 10+ years and they get very high pay. I would expect my team-lead to make 80%+ than me. Even the young dude who sits next to me get 25%+ than me, because he joined when the company were doing good.
"offer多啲錢俾你stay" doesn't mean I can't look for other jobs. Basically, if she does let me go to the developer team, my plan is to gain my knowledge/experience as much as possible to build up my resume profile before they fire me. So I have better chance for next job.
I was actually approached by the developer team manager 1 month into the company when I get noticed by several key co-workers, but that didn't go through for unknown reason. Maybe it's because I asked about compensation difference when they approach me or maybe because my own manager didn't want to let go.
My manager's manager is the IT Director who already noticed me long time ago and praised me in public, so it still make sense for her to rather move me into a preferred position than letting me go. Plus, I am the ONLY guy who is supporting the IT component of a KEY business, it would take couple months for my teammate to do what I do. They would at least want to keep me in the company to train/support whoever takes my position.
Again, I would still look for jobs. If I get 40%+ offer, I would jump ship. The previous 25% offer wasn't juicy enough for me due to commute distance and job security risk.
I'm in a pretty good company with a very good team. very happy except for money.
and there is an offer in US, which is 60% more salary. at least 10 times more share value. Now my current Manager is going to give me an offer for a raise or something.
My manager called me to let me know the developer team manager offer me 31% for the developer position. I accepted. She then asked me why I don't sound happy. Lol. She probably pretend she really want me to stay, and fire me after the project. It doesn't matter anyways, because I can't do anything about it. And I just continue to look for job while wait for the actual reposition.
