If I don't have to pay, I will agree with you that the Tiffany is of course better since someone do pay the price.
I got mine in HK at a wholesaler, then pick the band. If you have time, they could do whatever style you ask for. It is much cheaper than any big name jewelry stores in HK or those major jewelry stores here.
My ski buddy also works in this industry. He had few customers just go online to bid for diamonds these days. He said those online price is hard to fight. You could try if you don't mind to take the risk.
Other than GIA, there are few other common cert for diamonds too. Basically the same, but GIA is the biggest. Without the cert, it is hard for a normal people to judge a stone.
Back then when I shop for mine, HK people were crazy about "heart arrow". You need a good symmetry on round brilliant cut to get those heart and arrow. Fun to watch on the first few days using the red lens, but I don't think my wife cares too much afterward. Haha..
DO NOT GO TO THE MALL, YOU GET RIPPED OFF there. You can look there, but don't buy.
There are 4C - Cut, Clarity, Color, Caret. The one I picked is 0.49, H, Excellent Cut, VVS2.
to be honest and save yourself some money, get the largest caret that you can afford. As long as the cut has good symmetry, the blemishes and color are not as important as you can't really tell unless it's very close.
My fiance and I are more concern about the environmental impact and the workers of mined and blood diamond being circulated in the market. Needless to say, diamond is just another commodity that is controlled by the corporations for HUGE PROFITS.
For all these reasons, we went to Gemesis - a company who is known for lab-created (synthetic) diamond. I knew the company about 10 years ago through Wired magazine article 09/2003
This company has been making diamond for industrial use like cutting tools and lens for space telescope. They have been advancing to consumer class jewelry since 2010. All of their diamonds are graded by IGI and they are certified to have the same properties as real diamonds. They have the wording "Created by Gemesis" engraved on the diamond, so that it can be identified and appraised by third party.
It is not CZ, crystal, and artificial stuff (simulated diamond) on cheap jewelry, it is real diamond made in a lab under the same natural condition but accelerated. Therefore, they can control the quality and the yield. Even De Beers is trying to make lab-created diamond to combat Gemesis.
We bought our engagement ring from Gemesis and it came with IGI certification. Our diamond looks better, sharper and more affordable than the one you see in the store. I had it shipped to a hotel in the US that I am staying and proposed there.
Customer service is excellent, we communicated via email most of the times and a few phone calls. I am very impressed with their knowledge. I will definitely buy again as they are environmental friendly and affordable.
If you need more info on Gemesis, feel free to message me. I can give you the contact.
That's a great choice!!
I was concern about blood diamond as well. So we choose to skip getting a diamond ring all together. I may look around for a small vintage sapphire ring in the future. (I like non sparkling vintage cut)
I think it's the lighting Fibbi, most store have G and H as they are the most common and economical.
I think F will be VERY expensive.
But, Gemesis is best in making yellow diamond, so if you are looking at other jewelry, it's a good choice. I think we may get a pair of diamond earrings later from them.
