Once you get used to an easy job, it might take you longer time to get back to competitve job evironment.  My last job was super easy.  Basically my work schedule was like this:

Arriving in the office -> Playing games -> Lunch -> Going home.

That's what we did all day.  When I first came to my current job, I found my programming skill was not as sharp as before and it took my awhile to get back and be familiar to all th coding again.

I regretted that I wasted my 2 years there (my first 2 years was okay, I did learn stuff there).

I am just telling you my experience.  However, I do suggest you to keep this job for awhile because you can use the time to focus on study and learn to get familiar with SAP.  Learn to deal with different people even with people with less accounting knowledge.

Myversa,

You hit the main point of my complaint.
I worry that I will get used to the easy environment here too much and I will become less productive once I change into a more competitive environment.

I realize that people here always complain about technology problem; including outlook... and I just sit there quietly and figure it out myself..since I"m used to a super busy environment that everything has to be DIY...

I can see an opportunity to show your ability in your current job though.

Sounds like your trainner is very old fashion and not very well organized. So, after you finish your training, if you can straighten up, mordenize and computerize all his work, it will look very good on you.

I agree with this and I also see this as a good opportunity.  Esp. you mentioned this company is fairly big (global?), it may be a good chance to establish sth here.  (it is uasually hard to find opportunity to establish some ground in big company neh).

but just becareful that don't be 功高蓋主.  we can discuss this further if you want to know how to avoid it.

if that old man is like that, just listen to him when he teaches to avoid nagging. and once everything is settled, you'll have a chance to improvise a new system or way of doing things. that way, you can learn, contribute & prove yourself to the old men that things are done differently now. besides, they hired you to get things modernized jeh.

This sounds familiar... you worked at EA?

It is actually very lucky for you that you can start you job when everything is in a mess. It's easier for people to see the difference after you straighten everything up. However, if the previous person does everything perfectly, there's nothing special when you can do as good as that person. At the same time, it's hard to do better to show yourself!

If you do feel ultimately frustrated/ people don't like you... start looking for another job.. but otherwise just stick with it for a while

I totally feel for you cuz I am in my new job for almost 3 months.  In my first 2 month I always feel whatever I did was just wrong. PLAIN wrong.  But now I just started realize something:

When you watch DIFFERENT people doing the same thing it can be DIFFERENT and the outcome CAN BE DIFFERENT TOO.  So the more ppl you ask the more advantage you get.  Sometimes it's just different ppl get different standard.

Secondly, would you rather people tell you that you did wrong when you're new/ they tell you after you work there for years sin?  It might sound retarded but just ask WHENEVER you are confused.  ASK more than 1 person if possible.

Proper manner when someone tries to correct you
1. I'm sorry
2. It's my fault
3. How can I correct it?

Well, I'm not the type of person which will put somebody down and totally disrespect my so called "trainer".

It just he is in the wrong field. Not saying he is not accurate but he is accurate because he has been doing the exact same step and same things daily in the past 7 years.

He is very knowledgeable in this industry but I can't expect someone who used to sell hot dog and coffee by the dock will know accounting principle and concept, right?

Sazabi,

This company is large I guess? I'm not sure since I just started less than one month but due to the industry nature, they have offices in major cities around the world and on all continents (almost). So it's relatively large.

This company is not in a mess, it was a mess but they hired some HR professional totally re-shape the discipline and company value about 6 months ago so everything here is very well constructed already except they are using stone aged knowledge.

Part of the reason why the accounting paperwork is not well organized is they don't have anybody here in the Vancouver office responsible in accounting. They only have so called accounting clerk to do the work but these accounting clerk do not have strong accounting knowledge. They are just doing the surface work, so they don't have the sense of how the internal cycle work. Most of the time, they  just pray for the "finance office" will be "ok" with their work without any adjustment. They don't understand why these people in finance are very picky and strict on certain format and why they have to keep a copy on every single transaction. ....

The only opportunity I can see in this office is, they are slowly releasing (that's what I've been told in the interview) the AP works to the remote  offices which mean the head office will no longer solely responsible for all AP/AR transactions. Hopefully, as I move on with my own education and plus solid experience. I don't have to stuck doing "data entry" la....

But not sure will that happen ........ as some of you mentioned too, it's hard to gain ground in large company
