Sorry for bumping an old thread...probably shutterbug's question has been answered long time ago... I just want to add my experience to it.
I did the application online. Paid $150 (me + my wife and my 5 month old infant) and had the interviewed scheduled today at Vancouver center (just 2 blocks north of Stadium skytrain station).
We did the interview as a family of 3. We headed straight to the Nexus counter...2 US officers were working...were asked to hand over every pieces of documents (passport, citizenship cert, etc.) over. Got asked the typical questions (any violation with laws, customs, doing drugs, etc.)....just answered them truthfully and you'll be fine. I learned not to crack any jokes and have my poker face. They have your fingers scanned then you are asked to wait for the CAD officers to call your name. It was not a long interview (we did the US part in about 45 min) but since the counter is high and they have no chairs for you so it was tiring (I also carry my bb with the Baby Bjorn).
We waited 1/2 hr before the CAD officers called us....and we have a chair to sit down! Wow! There weren't many questions compare to the US side but they did ask why we apply for Nexus....we told them it is for pleasure (shopping).....they won't give it to you if you give them any hint of doing business there. The officer went thru the nexus lane hours...had us to sign a form declaring we won't violate the rules (or have the card taken away)....we got the declaration cards and were out the door....spent about 2 hrs altogether. We did not get our iris scanned as I had to go...but can always do it at the airport or any nexus center...
One thing I found out was if you have another passport (BNO, SAR passport, or any other passport) you want to make sure you include that in your application (online or paper). I didn't enter my SAR passport info online and the guy gave me a lecture on it. Having another passport won't hurt your chances to get a nexus card but not declaring your other passport may hurt you in the long run.
We were told the card will come in 5-10 business days....can't wait to get that in the mail and have this card as an optional travel doc (esp. on flights).
Hope my experiences help those thinking about getting a nexus. |
