Vista 64 bit has hardly any compatibility issue with hardware released in the past 5 years.

the only problem I had with x64 was that Adobe Master Suite CS3 had problem installing to it.  should be fixed with CS4.

WOrking as a full time IT Network Administrator, my suggestion is stick with 32bit OS unless you 3GB+ RAM is not sufficient, unless you enjoy troubleshoot computers.  Personally, I am running Vista 64bit on my main computer, but then I use it mostly for x64 Photoshop CS4, and some basic video editing (I am finally playing with 1080p video).

There any compatibility issues, not so much hardware, some plugins for IE either 32bit or 64bit still aren't running properly, and you will need firefox as an alternative.  And yes, there are other issues as well.  I don't quite care since I own 3 relatively fast computers, and only this one is running on Vista64.  I also have full access to my work's terminal server, and my work workstation most of the time.

If you like to have some decent bootup speed, I am currently using SSD as my main Boot Drive, all profile and temp is on my D: regular HD, and my main storage is on a RAID5 setup.  (50+/MB/s transfer speed)

for normal use, there is no need to get more then 4GB of ram.  and ram is cheap, so lose 500 something MB is not a big deal.

How do you capture all these images so nicely? Which utility did you use?

In Vista, there is the Snipping Tool, XP - Print Screen.

The easiest way is using the print screen button.  To do that.. do Ctrl-Print Screen.  To capture only the active windows, do Alt-Print Screen.

The Toshiba L series is a cheap laptop that may last about 1 year or so. It's cheap, but practical that works for those who just need a computer that is slightly more powerful than a netbook.

If you are getting a Toshiba, get a Tecra or Portege... these are the REAL Toshiba. The Satellite A and L series are just crap coming out from some Taiwanese ODM that makes the Acer and HP.
