why so suprised?
I did it once and then someone told me not to do it and kindly explained to me why. I used a small amount of warm water to wash the ice from my car. Yes I was not very considerable, but I believe everyone has the chance of being not-so-considerable moment.

we have been here for long time and of course we know all the should-do / should-not-do tricks during snowing/icing time. and do u guys be more considerable to the one who is a newbie to van or the ones who don't have such knowledge?

hot water is really not a good idea. but i've seen people using warm water before.

u should wish u will never need to move to a new place to work/live with totally different culture, weather conditions, atmosphere or whatever with compare to your current living/working place

electricity thing and this issue are different. warm place/cold place have electricity, but I dont think a newbie from warmer part of the earth would be a know-everything-guy like u
