I don't even know watches much, but lots of impt watch makers missing, and some of the ranking/rating just totally whacked....

Who rated this anyways? How authoritative? It isn't like wine where where there's a 1855 ranking.... Besides, most ranking are biased anyways (subjected to the clients the sale dept got ads from...)

I have 一類二等, 二類一等 and 五類. However, I never bought my own watches and all the watches I have are gifts that I received. They are more than I can wear (I often don't wear watches at all).

精工 is not that cheap... $3000 for one when I saw in hK!

For Seiko there are many "grades": Seiko, Seiko Spring Drive, Grand Seiko, GLT, Credor, etc.  The cheapest Seiko watch starts at about $100 Cdn and a Grand Seiko/Seiko Spring Drive will cost you $4000+ Cdn.  Their most expensive line, Credor, starts at about $9000 Cdn and their most expensive offering, as far as I'm aware of, cost $50000+ Cdn.

Seiko can be cheap, but it really depends on what you are buying.

Suppose the Credor line is below the GS line ...  however, some of them (newer, more trendy) cost even more then those regular GS.

I think the dilemma of an $$$ watch is that I won't wear it day to day....

if it turns into a jewel for attending wedding banquet (like 3 times / year)  then it is kind of dumb IMO.

I supposed you are referring to their newest Seiko Ananta Series?  I've seen it at a Seiko dealer here in Van and even though they are nice (starting at about $4K Cdn), I guess there isn't a market for a $4K Seiko watch here in North America.  Don't get me wrong I like Seikos but there's better way to spend $4K than to buy a Seiko...
