事實上, 殘體字並不比正體字易記, 並不比正體字易寫.

易記?!
就拿己、已、巳三個字或戊、戍、戌三個字來說，每個字的字形十分雷同，字形十分相近，在辨認時增加了難度。形成閱讀筆劃少，結構簡單的殘體字時，比正體字慢。一字多義亦引至要配詞才能分別字義，形成閱讀更慢。

易寫?!
以高文化程度群所使用的13,500字計算，每寫100個字，寫到的單獨簡化字僅4個，類推簡化字13個，還有83個是正體字。
有人對兩千個常用字表作了統計。兩千個常用字在未簡化前，一共是22,375劃，簡化後一共是19,560劃，每字平均為9.8劃，比正體字減少了1.4劃。不用說, 用了電腦輸入法，根本沒有多大的分別，反而筆劃簡單，重複字多更難分。

審.. 审, 咁 ‘伸’ 是 ’僠’? 蕃 又唔簡.
鄲.. 郸 但戰..战, 僤 又唔簡
積債 … 积债 點解有’只’ 同 ‘责’ 的分別
療遼.. 疗辽, 但 ‘瞭’ 簡為 ‘了’, 個 ‘目’ 呢?
牽..牵 點解 縴簡為纤.忏又是甚麼?
鬍鬚頭髮鬢.. 胡须头发鬓 點解鬢唔係賓或宾?
蝦嚇.. 虾吓,又用’下’, 遐假字又唔簡.
慵傭滽.. 慵佣滽, 點解唔統一’用’. 拥 又點解是擁
體禮.. 体礼 澧僼又唔簡 .
間閉.. 间闭, 開閤.. 开合 又無咗門

几旦 = 雞蛋
上吊 = 上調
九才交子 = 韮菜餃子

LOL, I am just saying what I think their reason was. I didn't say it was right to use simplified characters.

If their reason was to raise the literacy levels among the peasants, then they should switch back to traditional characters, since the education level has improved so much that the literacy rate is at least 92+%.

在下最頂唔順的簡體字:  
(1) "爱 " ,  變了無心的愛 ,  筆劃不見得少了幾多，說不上有簡化作用。  
(2) " 肖" ,  姓蕭的變了姓肖，懷疑蕭氏後人跟老毛有不共戴天之仇。奇怪當年不把"林" 簡化為"木" 算了，林彪變木虎，應該也無不可....
(3) "面" ,  吃麵,  變了吃人的臉.

when one is brought up with a certain character
that would be his/her most natural language
there is no issue of confusion

also for the word 聖 holy, when it gets simplified, it looks like the word 怪, strange indeed
and I hate it when they interchanging the use of 游 and 遊
i remember my teacher in elementary explained to us, 游, the 3 "water drops" let us know it's related to water...

also for the case of 它 and 牠
so maybe to many people in china, all animals are just "dead"
