I would say not just smart, but you do require the will to work extra long hours, good people skills, and the good money making business is relatively isolated.

There are far too many extremely low pay job in HK which will never get you anywhere.  You do the same here in Vancouver, you can still retire comfortably.

The way it is going in Hong Kong.  Large scale riots are in the cards.  Just hope the unemployment situation and housing bubble wouldn't pop.  If either one happens, it will be very messy.

Agree.  When I worked in HK...my chopped-room costed me $3k hkd, while i made about $10k ish at that moment as a fresh grad.....if i lived at a regular 1 bedroom suite...that would have costed me $7k+

Are the HK youth man enough to manufacture molotov cocktails and aim at the police? I think not. All they do is protest walk around on the street like its picnic.

Hong Kong's unemployment rate and taxation rate remain lower than that of Canada and the US. It looks like Hong Kong will be one of few places that will remain solvent in the coming few years, as HK government has no net debt.

Just look at Greece, Spain, Japan and the US. They are facing rising national debt. Sooner or later they will go bankrupt, therefore their governments will have to make big cuts in their spending, which will degrade their welfare, health care and education programs etc.
