who says that increasing government spending will get us out of this mess the quickest? You are purely carrying Keynesian view of economics. There are other views that calls for minimizing government intervention, which will yes, make the immediate future hard, but on the long term allow for quicker recovery. Knee jerk reaction and showing off what the government can do something by handing out candies is not what I want, I want long term outlook and resolution. I can't say whehter capital injection or reduce government's burden on the market is the correct way to get us out of this recession the quickest. In fact, nobody out there know for SURE what is the correct action and the correcdt magnitude of action to carry out. But if anything, Liberal and NDP is mainly just pissed off on the lack of public funding they get more than any of the issue with economic stimulation. I don't see how Liberal and NDP are the less of the evils when compared to the Conservatives. If anything I like how the Conservative tries to reduce political spending from public fundings. I'm sure effort in preventing a fiscal deficit will definately be better for Canada in the long term.

soli, maybe you should see what this guy has to say (Peter Schiff) on what the 'other side' will want to say as opposed to just pumping money thru 'government stimulations'

His track record:

Problem with bigger government, bigger economic stimulus. Specifically around the 8 minute mark on.

I like what the Conservative is trying to do in terms of reducing government spending, at least on this round. We don't have to follow the rest of the world in pumping money, especially when we are not China which have a huge cash pile in the bank account. If anything we are more like the US, with debt in the back. If anything we should save, we should continute with fiscal surpluses.

Liberal and NDP is just crooks on this round. I'm not saying Conservative is the saviour, but definately is the lesser of the evil on this case.

I think the Liberal are crooks and the NDP is even worse. The Bloc just want to split up Canada and create their own country. The three together reminds me of the pirates in the Pirates of the Caribbean. Just wonder who represents Capt. Jack Sparrow. I think we are doomed if they start running Canada.

I support another election as it is the only viable option out of this mess.

Canadian Democratic System in Danger

To those who think there is very little you can do, or think there is very little you can change, please bear in mind that as an individual, you probably can't do much. But collectively, our voices will be heard.

To express your concerns and disgust on this matter, I urge you to contact Prime Minister Harper, Liberal leader Dion, NDP leader Layton, and the MP of your riding. Their email addresses can be found on the following page:

http://webinfo.parl.gc.ca/Member ... rent&Language=E

I would also urge you to contact Governor General, Michaelle Jean. Her contact information can be found here:

http://www.gg.ca/contactus/index_e.asp

I welcome every LYK to use my letter here as your own starting basis. Feel free to make changes as you see fit, or if you want to, you can even copy and paste the exact letter that I wrote. I only ask you to add your full name, mailing address, and telephone number at the end of your letter to identify yourself to the GG Jean and the MPs, signifying that the letter came from an independent Canadian.

If you support the Liberal-NDP coalition, I urge you to make your voice heard as well.

Exercise your right and put democracy to work. Not everyone in the world can enjoy this luxury.

Democracy

Does anyone know what true democracy is?
Stephen Harper is a goner.  He made the one big stupid move.
He went after the pocket books of his political opponents.

Soli,

You are quite correct here. As the Opposition to the minority government, the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc have every right to vote down the Conservative minority via a vote of non-confidence. As written in my letter to the GG, I welcome them to exercise the power that Canadians have bestowed them.

However, I am protesting against the Liberal-NDP coalition government that was brokered behind closed doors between the sore-losing Liberals and the ever-opportunistic NDP. It is obvious that for 6 weeks, they have accepted their role as the opposition and recognized Harper and the Conservatives as the PM and the governing party. The dust has settled, and that's that! Had they made the coalition government proposal to GG Jean 6 hours after the Oct 14 election results were in, there might have been some degree of legitimacy to their proposal. Heck, had GG Jean offered government to this coalition at that time instead of handing it to the Conservatives, I might be inclined to accept it as well. But to cry foul now and attempt to sneak a coalition government in to replace the Conservatives shows how little they respect the rules of the Canadian democratic system.

To make matters worse, the coalition proposal wants to instate Dion as our lame duck PM for 5 months, after which the PM seat would be determined by the Liberals leadership race, as opposed to by Canadians in general. I just have to ask -- just since when did Canadians allow a selected group of people to choose our prime minister for us? As I recall, Canada is a country that practices universal suffrage.

Soli,

I hate to say this, but your post reveals how little understanding you have towards the Canadian economy. While the US recession will invariably drag the Canadian economy down to a certain extent, Canada is in a far better shape than the US is. The Canadian financial system remains strong, and in particular, our banking system is in a far better shape than what the US is struggling with. As a matter of fact, experts agree that among the G20, Canada is arguably in the best financial shape. Just because the US is throwing money every which way doesn't mean we have to do the same thing. More importantly, just because the US can afford to do this doesn't mean Canada can -- like it or not, the USD is the world currency, and that means the Feds has a licence to print money. The Bank of Canada, unfortunately, is not the Feds.

The "coalition" government's proposal to help the Canadian auto manufacturing sector completely misses the point as well. The Big 2.5's are shutting down plants left and right because the cars these plants make are not selling down in the US. What good does it do for Canada when this coalition government wants to keep these plants open? The Big 2.5 needs a re-structring plan coming straight from Detroit, not money from the Canadian government to keep uncompetitive plants open.

Once again, Soli, do not mislead others into thinking that the coalition government proposal is legitimate. No Canadian should challenge the Opposition's right to vote down the Conservative minority government, but the coalition government proposal is a completely separate issue. Canadians need to choose who our governing party and who are Prime Minister are, and as far as my 6-week memory can remember, Canadians as a whole has chosen the Conservatives and Stephen Harper to lead this country. We did not choose to instate a Liberal-NDP coalition government, nor were they invited to govern by the Governor General. We did not choose Mr. Dion to be our PM for 5 months, only to be replaced by a Liberal candidate that we have no say in choosing. To go along with the coalition government proposal will inflict a severely damaging wound to the Canadian democratic system.

So go ahead and vote the government down. Take us to the polls once again and let Canadians from coast to coast decide who will be our country's leader and governing party.
