you could try to book the Gingeri chinese restaurant in Lansdown mall. i think for even 8 tables can fully book the restaurant alone and the price is reasonable.

How you check Kirin in city square (w12th & Cambie)? I went there for my friend's small banquet (8 tables) and the food was pretty good for the price.
For wine, we found reasonable red and white for her at BC Liquor Store. (white $10, red $13)

Wine is another issue, according to LDB, restaurants are only allowed to mark up 100%, but it is  not always the case. Not everyone would compare the  wine list price against the
current price list.  And it is illegal to BYOB in B.C.  so the restaurants are doing you a flavor
allowing you to bring your own wine or liquor, even you brew them yourself. ( Please refer to Sering It Right Manual).  While caterers can  allow their clients to do their own shopping.

Are you sure BYOB is illegal? Even in western style restaurant I can bring my own and they charge corkage fee, although they may charge really high fee to make u order their wine instead.

If I have a very good XO (just an example) myself I can't bring to restaurant to enjoy it? That's no good...

Yes it's illegal. It's a common practice in HK and in most states in US. My friends were surprised that it's not legal.

The restaurant operators may not even know the bylaw; they just do it as courtesy
hoping that it would promote their good will. There are so many LDB regulations, especially
during the reign of NDP. My business dropped 65% during that 10 years and rebound when they were
forced to quit. But some bad law such as the ban of Chinese cooking wine still in place. The price
of Chinese liquors just sky high.

My mom was thinking about hosting a birthday dinner when we were at this restaurant call "Kum Pak Lok" , it's on park road, the same mall as Happy Date, their food is really good, and they said you can have the whole restaurant for minimum 6 people, and minimum $500 per table, so if you have a small banquet, maybe something to consider...Sorry don't have their English name or number......
