Try to stock up all the basic ingredients and non-perishables:
Mirin, miso, curry paste, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, chicken broth, grains, pastas
and most important: good chocolates ...

I have all of the above except good chocolates... cos they don't last long at my place... @ @
I usually don't make dessert.
BTW The first thing I will get if I have a house/garage is a FREEZER!!! I don't have much room in my fridge/freezer now.

the first two are good ingredients for malaysia asam laksa.
Those items are in 500 gm freezer bags, ready to use in 5 minutes.
Takes up about the size of a regular freezer compartment of household refrigerator, 18"Hx22"Wx18"D.
I do have a 48" chest freezer for my 100 Kg Organic All-butter Puff Pastry, 5 freezers in my house, Yes, I'm crazy
freezers are great if you have enough room in your house!
I lived in a very small town when I was a kid. Mom used to buy bd cakes for us from big towns (not available in my small town) and put in freezer. So i already knew what my bd cake will look like 1 yr ahead!
