I really like Margaret Atwood.  Her stories are usually dark, but it's at least dark humor.

The only Canadian I've read is Douglas Coupland, not a big fan. non-fiction I like Ronald Wright's a short history of progress. I've been reading james lovelock and listening to chris patten on youtube though. this past governor likes to criticize the Asians, he certainly thinks the Anglo race is superior, but a very intelligent man.

speaking of 金庸, I can't read it anymore, I can't believe I used to like this stuff, the books are great, and the author is very well informed and it serves entertainment value, but way too much morality involved. 金庸 always put his main character on a moral high ground, I think i can't read it because it is trying to program me into this moral high ground character in real life, would not be practical. I can't accept 金庸 anymore after I've read Game of thrones. LOL.

天龍八部 and
鹿鼎记 are the exception.

Nothing better than a mean/old/poor lady's nasty comments on the upper class French society.

I can't find the movie anywhere (not in BT), but the book is in library.  (Vancouver Library even has the chinese translation of the same book.)
