OMG....that's just too much! Did you do something bad? But anyhow...I don't think this way of "teaching" works at all! Poor Zuesel!

When I was little (before teen), it's be stupid things like I didn't do well on my tests or fight with my brothers. To be honest, I wasn't a bad kid. As a matter of fact, in speaking with my friends, they were even more naughty. My mom was just EXTREMELY strict, that's all.

Yap, her way of teaching had a negative effect on me. As soon as I got to pre-teen, I became VERY rebellious! I even lived in a foster home-got kicked out coz I had a fist fight with the real daughter; group home (home for bad kids), had to go in and out of social services, cut school, did lots of bad things...

Anyway, all in the past la. I am actually quite thankful for my experiences. I am the type that "do see coffin, don't cry".

parenting is not easy. especially chinese 棒下出孝兒 (BY DEFAULT). if kids dun understand they would think their parents not loving them. hence, more rebellion.

guess it's the old style of teaching kids. I got beat up a lot too when I was a kid. My mom only use the "tung til" for beating. But we got threaten a few times by a claver. (Still remember the vivid scene of it in the hardwood floor.)
Personally, I think it did damage the relationship between parents and kids. There are other ways to discipline but when they were busy with work and tired after they got home... they didn't have the patient to explain and understand.

btw, I was too chicken to be rebellious neither...

I got beaten by "tung til"...because I got 92 on test instead of 100!!!! Yes I did have some careless mistakes on the calculation but does that worth beaten up? I seriously wondered.
I'm also too chicken to be rebellious...I do think "beaten" may be necessary to really bad behaviour and when kid is super "un pay" and won't listen at all after many attempts...but that should be the very last method to use.

Back in 60's punishment on boys  are normal but very seldom on girls,
I have a younger brother and 2 sisters, and my sisters always got
away with it. Usually just scolding.

I still remembered that my dad "tung ti men ju yu"me so badly and kicked me out of the house.  I was standing at the gate, thinking where could I go while i was still 10 years old.  that's the first time i ever tried to think really hard with my brain at that time.

Living near 牛頭⻆,you see more gangsters than regular people...After i took the elevator down, my mom chase me at the street, pulled me up to the house and "tung ti" more.........

not true in my family. (we weren't even born in the 60's... @ @)
most of the time, we girls got punished cos my bro wasn't happy with us or we had some argument/fight with him. He was the centre of universe and so he never got into trouble.
