You said that super rich people don't earn pay cheques... you sure that there other incomes are taken into account in the stat???  Same for very poor people (those living on the street)?

OMFG... 1st, are u saying that most people (with average or below average) are either homeless or renters??? 2nd, u said that 60k is in a very good position to buy a 500SF home.  Now, we need 2 people to buy a home?  Make up your mind?  2 people.. is hard to live in a 500 SF home.  Need to upgrade to 2 beds, 2 baths, so 500-750k.  (are we still talking about downtown, or u want to change to Mission so it is easier to afford?)

Seriously, I don't know anyone that makes 60k+ driving a 2nd-hand pos.  May be, u know?  But I think you got the point, even if someone makes above average, he/she can afford a very small box, but need to sacrifice other stuffs and live like crap.  That's why Vancouver market is not healthy

What i'm saying is, if you have $1700 to spare, you spend within your budget. You can't always say "oh i NEED a car, i NEED cable TV, i NEED to go out for breakfast lunch and dinner, I NEED money for entertainment..."

Even if you have $7000 to spare, you still can't get everything you want. So rather to say that you can't live on $1700, i think it all depends on personal choices.

We were talking about other 700-800k house generally in vancouver.  Please don't start going off to 500k.  You can always go extreme and claim that people making 200k household can live somewhere 300 miles away from city.

If 100k a year, it is income to price ratio of 7 - 8.  It is much higher than the 5 that you pointed out earlier.

yup, u will need both partner to make more than 50k to afford that.  Need to wish that neither of one gonna lose the job and the interest rate to stay low forever.

Don't u think it is sad that for a couple to live in a 30-40 yr old house, or a over-priced concrete box if the couple makes more than 100k a year?  It is doable, but I just think it is sad.

Do you still want to claim that this is a sustainable market?

I said 60K is in good position to buy a 500sf bachelor suite.

and a couple with 2 income is in good position to buy a $500,000 home (condo/ house).

I think there are always people who can't afford to buy, we don't live in an ideal world. C'est la vie.

where is that single detached house and how much sin??

and if you can't afford a house, is it so bad that you have to buy a condo?? in many cases condos are probably more conveniently located (close to sky train/ major bus routes and shopping centres). i don't think you need to be super rich to afford that in Vancouver...
