There are some interesting attempts at selective focus and playing with light and shadow, but the subject and the effect are somewhat lacking imo.

Yes, I could have put more thought into these.  But I was limited to my 1 hr lunch and 1st day with my new camera and lens.  Thanks for the input.

The shadow on the wall is somewhat interesting, so you might want to bring down the brightness and add more contrast to make it stand out.

When I look at the b&w images I created a year ago, they all look pretty bad to me.  I think the lens has the biggest impact on a b&w photo.  If you study the various designs of lenses all the way back to the 40s, you can see they all have very different characteristics.  For color images I don't think the differences are that profound but it really shows on b&w images.  My b&w processing is nothing special but I just have good glass.
