The best way is to search on craigslist for potential building, or you can ask the people in the elevator when you go visit the place, they usually don't mind telling you how much they pay for rent.

craiglist is the best place for man seeking man, woman seeking woman no wonder big C recommended it

The trend also indicates that rent is going down.
As price not going up, speculators/investors pull off from the market and try to rent units out.  Landlords compete for tenants; hence, rent goes down.
All in all, never believe those BS (e.g. no more land in vancouver, rich chinese love vancouver, real estate only goes up) coming from those real estate pimps.

    What trend?

I am not a believer that real estate will ALWAYS go up and it's ALWAYS a good investment for everyone. The speculation of the market will go down dramatically in the future is as reliable as saying the real estate will go up dramatically in the future - who knows?

Investment aside, if you don't NEED to buy (ie, you live with your parents or you don't mind renting for the rest of your life), then you can hold onto your money and wait for the "right time". But when that time comes (when real estate prices go down dramatically), the whole economy is likely going down at that time, are you willing to invest in properties then? Knowing that your stocks/ other investments may have gone down in value, and your job may not be as secured during the bad times?

It's easy to sound "smart" and say, "I'm predicting the market will crash and go down by 40%, I'm waiting to buy then" but it's another thing to put down $100K cash at a time like that in reality.

Hmm.... what do you think it's the "right" or "good" time to invest in property?
