Any LYK having trouble looking for a new job? How are you handling the situation thus far? I have been looking for senior accountant types of job since early August and there hasn't been much postings for the Van area in the past few weeks. Even though I have worked for a small public company and did a lot of work on reporting in Canadian GAAP, consolidation. financial analysis and operational accounting in the last few years, I couldn't find much postings that match my profile. I am not sure why but most of the openings I have seen are from Public practise firms, mining companies, property companies, or manufacturing companies, and most of those companies are only looking for people with experience in those industry (which I got none...I was working in IT/Telecom). Also, I found that the employers are having very strict requirements in these tough environment. Either the employers are looking for people who have dealt with IFRS (it's so new in Canada so I have not too much exposure but I have done a course on it), or need experience with ERP (no exposure at all from my previous job).
I have applied for 40+ jobs and so far only got back 7 responses with only 2 interviews, and zero job offers. I have done mass resume emailing to companies and asked my friends if they know of any job openings at their workplace, but there just aren't anything out there. I am trying to be very patient (and the recruiters also said the same thing), but I want to be more proactive. Anyone in the same boat right now (not just accounting but also IT or marketing or engineering etc.) and if you don't mind to share, what are your plans?
