A new item appears on my telus bill recently: long distance network access charge 2.95. I heard that if I already subscribed to a LD plan (e.g. AIC) I can request AIC to inform telus that I have them as my LD carrier and telus will waive the long distance network access charge. Is this right? Or the 2.95 is unavoidable?  Any advice?

You need to call them to cancel because if you do not, they ASSUME you are using their long distance so they charge you this.

【本報編譯林清暉綜合報導】Telus研科有線電話用戶，如未加入其長途電話計畫，每年將多收到一張帳單。這帳單與每月收到一般帳單看似無異，相當於每月得多繳2.95元。

Telus研科公司發言人侯爾（Shawn Hall）表示，該公司為數450萬的有線電話用戶中，「絕大多數」都不會受此新費率影響，因為他們都已加入該公司的長途電話計畫，每月支付4.95元的管理費。

至於未加入該公司長途電話計畫的客戶中，Telus研科估計約有80%用戶可因加入該計畫而受惠，如果他們每月大約撥打18分鐘長途電話的話。

根據Telus研科公司最近發表的財務季報顯示，該公司的有線電話客戶和營收正持續衰減，部分原因是受到蕭氏（Shaw）和羅渣士（Rogers）等通訊公司的競爭挑戰。

Telus研科公司上述加價計畫不須經過加拿大廣播電信委員會（CRTC）的批准，即可逕行實施。
