B.C. Solicitor General Kash Heed has introduced a bill that would prohibit drivers from using cellphones while driving, unless the phones are connected to hands-free devices.
Is talking on the cell phone as danger as talking to your passengers or your kids at the back?
Is using GPS or changing radio channels also as danger as talking on the cell phone?
What if we use hand free device, is it still consider "safe"?
I think this is the right move, hands free is the right move.
Proponent who says using handsfree is just as risky, then we'd have to ban talking to passengers and listening to radios...
And then people will start to fall asleep during driving cuz it's too boring... LOL
You can't just ban everything just in the name of safety, otherwise the first thing that we should ban is the act of driving itself. It's alway a trade-off between efficiency and safety and finding the sweet spot for the balance between the two. I think restricting to handsfree use is a good move.
You can use hadsfree, but you are only allowed to press a button once. Answering a call this way isn't a problem. Dialing out requires you to set up 1 press shortcuts first or use voice dial.
