Whoa~ $1k for personal income tax?! Unless your situation is super complicated, I can't imagine why you'd be charged that much.
Professional personal income tax reporting services range from $20 (at the Mall) to $400-ish for something sufficiently complicated (lots of investments stuff and claims, etc.). Depending on how lazy and complicated your filing is, it may or may not be worthwhile to hire an accountant for this.

if you just have a t4, t3 & t5, it should cost $100 or less
the mall one is usually start from $20(you have nothing to report). if you just have a t4, ~$40. but some companies charge by schedules and some charge by items. so you better ask them for the price first.
i think the $1k for doing a corp taxing return too.
