保安員紛請假「避難」
【明報專訊】根據過往的經驗﹐G20峰會舉行期間﹐很多時示威者失控而引致警﹑民之間的暴力事件。其中1間將於本周派員為多市峰會做保安工作的私人保安公司稱﹐該公司有不少保安員想避開暴力衝突﹐部分職員較早前已紛紛申請放大假﹐估計另有一些職員會於本周末峰會舉行期間請病假。

過往的經驗顯示﹐峰會期間不但示威者會遭警方拘捕﹑發射催淚彈驅散及毆打﹐警員及保安員也會遭到示威者擲石﹑擲灌尿蛋殼而受傷的情況。

為G8及G20峰會做保安工作的私人保安公司Security Services International總裁Sunil Ram表示﹐該公司一些保安員似乎不太願意於峰會期間工作﹐由於無法預先估計到時會有甚麼事發生。一些一早已申請放大假﹐估計另有一些職員到時會請病假。

然而﹐多倫多警隊已於1年前通知各警員﹐峰會期間所有警員都要上班﹐不讓警員到時申請放大假逃避做峰會保安工作。

此外﹐峰會會場大多倫多會議中心外圍加建保安圍欄的工作已接近完成﹐警方昨天通知公眾﹐於昨晚7時以後﹐在保安區(北至皇帝街﹑南抵湖濱大道﹑東起士巴丹拿街﹑西至央街)內的十字路口會關閉﹐以便裝設保安圍欄。在安裝完畢之後﹐會重新開放路口。

所以在昨晚﹐進入保安區域的駕車人士﹐感到十分不便。

在昨晚安裝圍欄完畢之後﹐整個保安圍欄的安裝工作﹐基本上已差不多完成。保安小組發言人德拉蒙德(Wendy Drummond)昨天表示﹐至昨天﹐安裝圍欄工作已完成95%。

另外﹐離G20峰會還有1個星期﹐但是多市的保安已明顯加強﹐街頭巷尾都見到警察巡邏﹐見到任何可疑事件﹐都會小心檢查。例如昨天巡邏警員在皇帝西街一條後巷發現2輛裝甲四驅車﹐其中1輛還掛上美軍車牌﹐令到警察大為緊張﹐經調查後﹐才發現是2輛裝甲轎車﹐租用來運載一名作家出席新書簽名會。事情雖是虛驚一場﹐但卻顯示了警方在保安上的緊張。

Well, it's just logical to protect your own self interest. Most of these securities personel took the job probably because they are okay with the work they do during the peaceful time for what they were offered as compensation. When it comes to violent protests/etc if given a choice, not hard to comprehend that they want to protect their self-interest over it. If you are given a choice to use your vacation on it or to duke it out with protestors and potentially risk your life (ability to care for your family/spend time with your kid for the next 20 years) on it, would you?

In a free market economy with a legal system people do what they are allowed to do under the law (maybe a little bit more than they are allowed sometimes...) to maximize their self-interest. Simplest way is just shove more money as incentive for people to work over G20, or like the police, annouce that they can't wing it well ahead of time. Sounds like fair game to me.

I am going SHORT into Friday.  Market usually tanks before G20 to pressurize the leaders. Better cover before Saturday though.

Market has gone down a little bit earlier than I thought, so now I actually don't think we will have another 100 points drop tomorrow.

Closing out some of my short positions and going long oil again, it's way too oversold.

I am also bearish on Tech.  RIMM should miss today after market and Apple has a lot of room to go down.
