VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The terms whitewash, hogwash and brainwash now have some new company, Greenwash! That's when a manufacturer claims its products are more environmentally friendly than it really is and apparently it's happening quite often.
A study out of Ottawa from TerraChoice Marketing found 95.6 per cent of over 5,200 items reviewed had at least one misleading green claim.
We asked people in Vancouver about their thoughts and one man told us there needs to be greater regulations. "Definitely, because people are paying more out of their pockets thinking they're doing something good for the environment. If that's not true then we're just wasting our money for no reason."
Moms and dads also need to be careful, the study also found almost 90 per cent of all "green toys and baby products" provided no proof they were truly eco-sensitive.
