Be the first to Comment  1 Recommendation(s) VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - They're not trying to cause problems on the road; they just want to get their message out.  Container truckers are on the road this afternoon to rally against minimum rates not being properly enforced.

Gavin McGarrigle with the Canadian Auto Workers Union says that's why they're getting together to protest and for a convoy on Highway 91.

He tells News1130 after they took action back in 2005, the government introduced rates that were supposed to ensure stability.  But McGarrigle adds they're not working, and the Union is still being undercut.  "We say [it's going to] lead to more trucks on the road and less work for everyone, and have potential to cause chaos down the road."

He says they're hoping to avoid history repeating itself. "If the situation doesn't get resolved, we could see more strikes at the ports and more labour destruction, which is going to be detrimental to everybody."

Expect to see a slew of semi-trucks head over the Alex Fraser Bridge and then continue through the Massey tunnel.
