VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - BC's Conflict of Interest Commissioner is looking into claims that Premier Gordon Campbell used public funding to attend a private conference in Spain over the summer.

According to a Freedom of Information request made by the BC First Party, Campbell used $10,000 worth of public funding to pay for a trip to the invite-only Bilderberg Conference in June.

The Party's Chris Delaney spoke live on News1130 earlier today.  He says it doesn't matter if Campbell had disclosed any of the trip's details.  "Participants attend Bilderberg in a private and not an official capacity.  The premier claims he went in an official capacity, but I don't know if that's his decision to make.  The determination of what the meeting is is by the people who organize the meeting, not by the people who attend."

He adds the commissioner has been gathering information on this case over the past several weeks.  "The question is whether that puts him [Campbell] into a conflict of interest, which it would seem to, but that's why we've requested an investigation."

The Commissioner is scheduled to give his opinion on the whole matter in just over a week.
