VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The five declared Liberal leadership contenders say they don't expect their race to get nasty as they prepare to square off for the top job.

Mike de Jong has worked with Kevin Falcon, Moira Stilwell, George Abbott and Christy Clark, and he calls them friends. "If ever there was a situation in which a debate of ideas [can] take place without any of the personal stuff that often occurs, this is it.  At least that's my sense."

Kevin Falcon says expect honest differences of opinion between himself and his colleagues, whom he also calls friends. "That doesn't mean that we dislike each other or that we're going to be somehow fighting each other. It just means that we may slightly different opinions on how we want to go forward and where we want to take the province. And that is not a bad thing."

Moira Stilwell, in politics for 17 months, doesn't plan to get into the trench during this race. "I'm just happy to let the people of British Columbia, and specifically members of the BC Liberal Party, to get to know me and hear my ideas. You won't hear personal sniping from me. That's not what I'm interested in."

Stilwell says the more people and points of view in the race, the better.
