Bringing your own wine to restaurant?

Has anyone recently had a wedding in Vancouver where you had brought your own wine to the restaurant/reception venue??
I read on the news just a little while back stating that customers are not supposed to bring their own wine to license premises due to a breach of the law... if caught they will be fined anything from $5k-7k. Are restaurants still allowing customers to do this? I could see if its just a causal dinner it might not be too noticeable; but are chinese restaurants still allowing couples to do this during a wedding reception?

If you plan to serve a big party of booze, you need to apply for a liquor license before you can do that.

so is it okay to bring your own wine as long as there's a corking fee involved?

noop. It's illegal in BC for sure.
It's OK in California and ... NYC may be..  I don't really remember. And it's very common in HK.
Some restaurants take their risk by letting some of their regular customers to bring their own wine with corkage fee. But it's definitely NOT legal.
