0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has died in Los Angeles. She was 79.
Publicist Sally Morrison says the actress died Wednesday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from congestive heart failure. Morrison says her children were at her side. She'd been hospitalized for about six weeks.
Taylor first gained stardom as a child and appeared in more than 50 films. She won Oscars for her performances in "Butterfield 8'' and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'' She was equally famous for extraordinary beauty and her stormy personal life, including eight marriages and a series of physical ailments.
Thor Diakow with Breakfast Television joined us live a little earlier and says Taylor was one of the first people in Hollywood to catch onto Twitter. "She would often be Tweeting, sometimes in the hospital, and she would be assuring all her fans that she was ok."
He says the two-time Oscar winner was often thrust into the spotlight for numerous scandals and marriages. "But people are also remembering her for her charitable work that she did with AIDS and HIV awareness..."
It's believed the actress will be laid to rest next to her parents at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. Marilyn Monroe and Dean Martin are also buried there. |
