Say the videos re-victimize the people involved

0    NANAIMO (NEWS1130) - Mounties will be going into schools to warn kids about posting videos of crimes online after a video showing two teenagers beating up another teen outside a mall in Nanaimo was put on YouTube.

Constable Gary O'Brien says about 20 people stood around and watched as the girls punched and kicked the victim, leaving her with a cut lip and a black eye. Thankfully, two girls stepped in and broke up the fight.

O'Brien says it's becoming more common for kids to post these kinds of videos. "They don't realize the consequences of their actions. They are used to instant gratification with Blackberry messaging and Facebook and social networking, they are in constant contact with each other."

He says this trend is disturbing. "You are re-victimizing the person involved and that is the trend that we're trying to break and we're working with our school liaison officers who are going into schools and leading discussions with youth and teachers as to why they feel this is necessary."

No charges will be laid against any of the people who watched the fight, or the person who posted the video, but assault charges will likely be laid next week against two other teens.

The video has since been removed from YouTube.
