VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - We may have answers before the municipal elections this fall into that deadly rooming house fire in the Downtown Eastside.

City Council has agreed to a motion brought forward by Councillor Suzanne Anton asking it to move up the date of the Coroner's inquest. Anton says, "people deserve the answers before the election and certainly the families deserve an answer at the earliest possible time. That may happen if the Coroner chooses to change the date."

The inquest into the December 2010 deaths of Garland McKay, Dwayne Rasmussen and Stephen Yellowquill could begin in October.  If it does, there could be some political damage as reports suggest the City Hall was aware of multiple bylaw infractions by the owner of the house.

The three men died after a faulty extension cord caught fire.
