Air show pilot seriously injured after crash in Nanaimo

0 NANAIMO (NEWS1130) - A 71-year-old pilot has life-threatening injuries after his plane had crashed during an air show in Nanaimo this afternoon.

Constable Gary O'Brien with Nanaimo RCMP says the pilot was performing the first of eight demonstrations when he lost control of the plane.

"Paramedics were quickly on scene, as they were there for the air show. They were able to remove the male alive from the carnage. He received significant facial and internal injuries, and broken bones. His current condition is unknown."
   
Transport of Canada is investigating the cause of the crash.

The air show was cancelled out of respect for the pilot and his family.
