0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Friday marks a sad occasion for a North Vancouver family. But the Keasts are turning a tragedy into a legacy.
On June 10, 2006, high school basketball star Quinn Keast was celebrating his graduation when he was accidentally killed by a transit bus on Howe Street in downtown Vancouver.
A new outdoor basketball court bearing his name will be officially unveiled at Templeton Secondary Schools on Friday.
"The motto in his life was 'live with no regrets.' Quinn competed in the provincial championships in 2006. I wanted to give that dream to kids that don't necessarily have the money to go into sports at a high level. All they need is a court and a ball and they can have fun," says Jan, Quinn's mom.
She says the court is just what the neighbourhood needs. "The other day, when we were over there, kids were doing so many things on the court. They were shooting balls, they were jumping and trying to slam dunk. It was really fun to see the joy kids were getting out of it," she
She hopes the Keast Quinn Foundation can build a similar basketball court somewhere in the Downtown Eastside. |
