BURNABY (NEWS1130) - There was a deadly stabbing in Metro Vancouver that may have been a family affair.  Police are still on Elwell Street near Sperling, where they continue to investigate the stabbing death of a 45-year-old woman.

A number of neighbours heard and reportedly watched the incident unfold yesterday evening.

"I think the kids down the street, he attacked their mother with a knife.  He slashed her across the face and she was lying on the ground.  They ran back to the house and the police got to the house and got the guy out," says one man who lives in the area..

Officers found the woman bleeding on the ground.  She was taken to hospital but died a few hours later.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the woman was arguing with her 24-year-old son.  He's been arrested and remains in custody.

"This is an example of how volatile domestic disputes can be and the impact it can have on all those involved. This has impacted and changed a family forever and affected a neighbourhood," says Sergeant Peter Thiessen.
