2 NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - If you're planning an afternoon on the local mountains, North Shore Rescue is urging you to dress for the weather. Some of the trails on Seymour are still covered in ice and snow.

We spoke to one woman who braces for cold when she heads for the local hills, even in August. "I wear a coat, boots, and (other) winter clothes. It's pretty cold."

Meanwhile, this woman who likes the trails on Grouse doesn't exactly bundle up for the back country, even though she knows it's been a cooler summer. "I definitely just go up in shorts and a t-shirt."

But it has been a cooler season; the shorts, t-shirts and runners rescue crews see hikers wearing these days simply don't cut it.

North Shore Rescue warns Seymour's trails are still covered in i
ce and snow, which means it's no place for beach wear. It says the conditions can easily cause you to slip and become dangerous -- even deadly -- fast.

In today's Vancouver Sun, the organization describes full winter conditions up there. If they were called in for help, rescue crews would be in full winter gear.
