Keep the oven door closed when you're making dinner.

Resist the temptation to open the oven door to check on your pot roast. Each time you open the oven door, the temperature drops 20 to 50 degrees. It takes a lot of energy for the oven to regain the temperature losses, so if you have to peek, turn on the oven light and look through the glass.
