Canon Powershot G12

I am planning on getting a camera that I can play around with aperture/shutter/focus... but is also small enough to fit in my bag. So I am looking at Canon Powershot G12 and wondering if it is a good one or is there any model out there around same $? Advice please? Thanks!

You might also want to look at the Canon PowerShot S95. It is a lower model compared to the G12, and it still offers user adjustable aperture and shutter settings. However, unlike the G12, it doesn't come with a flash hot shoe la, so you don't have the potential to play with external flashes.

High end P&S doesn't make whole lot of sense anymore.  Try mirco 3/4.

Is micro 3/4 the way to go though? For me at least, they are sort of a useless middle ground that doesn't serve either purpose well enough. They are too big to be compact, portable, and convenient enough (mostly due to their lenses). And if I want them to be useful, I might as well take out my dSLR anyway.

Nonsense, nothing is designed for the poor!

G12 is good, I stick with the G line.

3/4 is good
and isn't that much bigger than a g12
