Teachers federation says there's no timeframe or definition to job action

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Two weeks into the fall routine, kids are getting used to being back at school. But the labour dispute between teachers and the BC government is dragging on.
There are new assurances that this will not affect students. The BC Public School Employers' Association says even though administrations around the province are feeling the pressure, they're determined not to let it spill over onto students.
Susan Lambert with the BC Teachers Federation insists any concerns have been quickly cleared up:
"I have heard isolated complaints, but they're from a misunderstanding of what the job action entails. We are communicating with parents, we are recording marks, we are assessing kids. Children will know their progress in school."
Lambert's hopeful for a deal so they don't have to escalate job action. "No timeframe on that, and no definition on what that would look like."
Given that money is one of big issues here, we had to ask about the glossy 22-page pamphlet we received from the BCTF; it outlines its plan for quality public education. The teachers federation says the union paid for it -- not taxpayers -- calls it an expression of its commitment. |
