VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Police are looking for a suspect after a 24-year-old Burnaby man was fatally stabbed in a car on Victoria Drive near Charles Street in East Vancouver early Saturday morning.

Const. Lindsey Houghton with the VPD says the man was on his way home from a party in a sedan with a driver and another passenger around 12:30 a.m. when the other passenger stabbed him several times in the upper torso.

"Alert citizens who were nearby went to the car and found the critically injured man inside and called 911," says Houghton. "Police arrived to find the victim clinging to life inside the car."

He died in hospital less than twelve hours later.

"Investigators are confident they have a suspect, and they are actively searching for him, but they have asked for investigative reasons to hold [a description] back at this time."

Police don't know the relationship between the victim and suspect, and are trying to work out the motive.
The driver ran away during the stabbing, fearing for his own safety, but is fully cooperating with police.

The death is Vancouver's 11th homicide of the year.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
