ALDERGROVE (NEWS1130) - A veterinary technician at the Greater Vancouver Zoo had to get several stitches today after she was bitten on the wrist by a ring-tailed lemur.
Jody Henderson with the zoo says the technician was feeding the lemur some fruits and veggies when it happened.
"It hit a pretty strong artery on the top," says Henderson. "She lost a fair bit of blood. We called for an ambulance right away."
Henderson says lemurs are herbivores but have teeth that are sharp like a cat's.
"This one here has been hand-raised, and is fairly new to the group. We brought it in about eight months ago, so as a result of that it's just getting used to its new surroundings and such so that's probably the reason why he's reacting the way he is," she explains.
The technician is taking the next few days to recover but is expected to be OK. |
